Beautiful Antigua

Antigua really and truly is a beautiful island. I’m quite sad I was only there for a couple of days, because I really wanted to experience all it has to offer.

I was there for 36 hours (before continuing on to Dominica) but I did manage to squeeze in one excursion and two trips to the local KFC- both are a must!

I stayed at Ellen Bay Inn; a nice, cozy, bed and breakfast. The room I was given was clean, equipped with A/C and a mini fridge. There is also a restaurant on site (very convenient) with menu items such as burgers, seafood and different varieties of chicken.

Stingray City Antigua is just steps from the inn. After check in, a staff member briefs the entire group and then presents waivers. The group is split up into smaller groups, and these smaller groups are placed into boats. It’s about a 7 minute ride on the water to a small platform that has been designed for participants. The water isn’t deep- a little under 5 feet- and from the moment you step in, the stingrays are everywhere. They’re not being held in captivity; they just know that people means food.

Oops let me clarify, not people as food, but people bring food.

Each guest is provided with what I believe is squid (I’m not a fan of seafood so I opted out) to feed the stingrays. You’re also provided with snorkeling equipment if you don’t bring your own, to swim around. There are photo ops, taken by the staff to be purchased after, so if possible, bring a waterproof camera.

The whole ordeal takes about an hour, and then back to shore, where punch (or rum punch, which was heavy on the rum) is provided.

Antigua is definitely on my return list; it’s too beautiful of an island to not explore in its entirety.
